The Transfer Center at Rio Hondo College reaches out to students for help and support. The Transfer Center has its own table at events, like at the Transfer Fair on October 1, 2025. The Transfer Center is located on the 2nd floor of the Student Services Building in SS-250.
The Transfer Center at Rio Hondo College provides assistance and support for students planning to transfer to a four-year college or university. Four-year colleges and universities include: Cal State University (CSU), University of California (UC), private, and out-of-state. Transfer Center Specialist, Gabriel Amaya, explained, “The Transfer Center is here to help you with all things transfer! Whether it’s transfer exploration, assistance with the application, sending your transcripts to your transfer institution, we are here to help!” The Transfer Center offers services including transfer application assistance, transfer counseling, transfer events, transfer workshops, university tours, and appointments with university representatives. The Transfer Center also offers free printing and has a computer lab for students to complete their assignments.
Workshops provided by the Transfer Center include: Application workshops (for CSU, UC, and private applications), Introduction to Transferring, CSU workshops, UC workshops, Transfer Admission Guarantee (TAG) workshops, Personal Insight Question workshops, and workshops on next steps after applying.
Events offered by the Transfer Center include transfer fairs and university tours on Fridays. These events take place each Spring and Fall semester. Many CSU, UC, and private campuses are connected with the Transfer Center. During every Spring and Fall semester, university representatives from college campuses, including UCLA, UC Irvine, UC Riverside, CSULA, Cal Poly Pomona, CSU Long Beach, CSU Fullerton, CSU Dominguez Hills, Whittier College, Mt. Saint Mary’s, USC, and more, are present.
Usually, when a university representative visits Rio Hondo College’s campus, the representative can be found either in the Transfer Center or in the Lower Quad. University representatives allow students to inquire about what the college or university has to offer and its requirements. University tours allow students to learn more about the campus and to familiarize themselves with it.
Rio Hondo College student, Alyssa Ramirez, was using the Transfer Center for the first time. She heard about the Transfer Center from a counselor that she met with. Ramirez explained that the counselor told her she “was eligible to transfer in the Spring of 2026,” when she told her to come to the Transfer Center.
Not only was Ramirez using the Transfer Center’s computer lab, but the staff also provided her assistance. “So far they’re helping me fill out an application. They’re helping me figure out that my major aligns with the classes that I have so far. That way, everything is correct on my forms.” Ramirez described her experience in the Transfer Center. “I think that the Transfer Center it seems to be a really useful tool. The people there are very kind, very patient, and I think that they are doing their best possible to make sure that, you know, you’re able to transfer successfully.”
“Take advantage of all the services that Transfer has to offer,” Specialist Amaya said. During the Fall 2025 semester, the Transfer Center is open on Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., and on Friday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
