The Dodgers have won back-to-back World Series titles, becoming the first team since the Yankees in 1998-2000. They triumphed in a thrilling seven-game series against the Toronto Blue Jays, claiming a dramatic extra-innings Game 7.
Outfielder Kiké Hernandez celebrated the victory, calling it one of the best Series in history. Miguel Rojas hit a game-tying homer in the ninth, and Will Smith’s go-ahead homer in the 11th led to a 5-4 Dodgers victory.
Yoshinobu Yamamoto delivered a standout performance throughout the World Series. This earned him the honor of being named World Series MVP.
The Blue Jays, despite their effort, fell short of winning their third championship, remaining without a title since 1993.
Tom Verduccis’ article, “Dodgers Are About to Test Shohei Ohtani’s Seemingly Limitless Boundaries.” explains more in depth about the events that took place last night, stating:
“Two-way superstar Shohei Ohtani started on the mound for Los Angeles on three days’ rest. Manager Dave Roberts elected to start him because of the peculiarity of the “Ohtani Rule,” which allows a starting pitcher to leave the mound and stay in the game as only the hitter, but if that same player becomes the pitcher later in the game and then departs, the team loses the hitter. The Dodgers couldn’t risk bringing Ohtani into the game at another time, so he took the ball in the first inning. His opposition: three-time Cy Young winner, and one of only four pitchers to throw multiple World Series game sevens, Max Scherzer.” said Dan Freedman.
Critics are also saying “Game 7 of the 2025 World Series was one of the wildest, and to some extent that’s expressed as easily as “a deciding World Series game went to extra innings,” which had happened just twice before in baseball history. When you’re talking about things like “was that the best Game 7 ever?!” Given the breadth of baseball history, you know you’ve seen something special; when you have a Game 7 in extra innings in the first place, you know you’ve seen some wild plays.” said Mike Petriello.
The significance of the Dodgers repeating as champions is that it’s the first time in 25 years a baseball team accomplishes this feat.
The Dodgers will now look into three-peating as champions which would be incredible and show that this team is a dynasty.
