LONG BEACH, Calif. – Yesterday, practice for the 2026 Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach took place for all competing series ahead of this weekend’s races. Will Power led the NTT Indycar Series field in the first practice of the weekend, setting a pace of 1:07.6053 around the 1.968 technical street course in his #26 Andretti Global Honda machine.
The NTT Indycar Series Sunday is scheduled for a 5:00pm EST and 2:00pm local time start on Sunday. Qualifying takes place this afternoon after the final practice, and is sure to be exciting given its importance around a tight, narrow street circuit like Long Beach. In practice, time were tight across all three top series. Most notably, sure-to-be contender Scott Mclaughin found the barriers towards the end of Indycar practice Friday in his #3 Chevrolet, diminishing his second place in the session and highlighting the knife-edge drivers are operating on around a circuit like Long Beach.
The IMSA Weathertech Sportscar Championship races around the street course today at 4:00pm EST and 1:00 local time, with a 100 minute long Grand Prix where the driver who does the most laps win. The #93 Acura Meyer Shank Racing w/Curb Agajanian Acura ARX-06 driven by Renger van der Zande and Nick Yelloly will lead the field to green in the fastest Grand Touring Prototype (GTP) category.
In the slower Grand Touring Daytona (GTD) class, which takes stock car models and upgrades to international Grand Touring race standards, Frankie Montecalvo claimed pole driving the #89 Vasser Sulivan Racing Lexus RC F GT3. GTPs and GTDs compete at the same time, creating a lively and traffic filled race.
The race follows the North America Porsche Carrera Cup, which races identically prepared Porcshe 911 GT3 992.2s around the circuit at 9:00am for its first race of the weekend, with another following tomorrow.
